Weight Loss Hacks for Moms of Young Children

Weight Loss Hacks for Moms of Young Children

Losing weight is a feat in itself, but it’s even tougher when you’re raising young kids. Sometimes, fast food and freezer chicken nuggets are all you can muster after a long day of playing mom.

But if you’re committed to losing weight, various hacks help significantly. A healthy diet and exercise are two surefire ways to drop a few pounds, but they might not be enough.

If you’re struggling to lose weight with a busy lifestyle and kids, Dr. Jeff Toll offers concierge care and weight loss services at his office in Los Angeles, California. He’s an internal medicine specialist who provides weight loss programs and tools to help you achieve your desired body.

Why is losing weight so difficult?

Life gets crazy once you have kids who are walking and running everywhere. Young kids require a lot of attention, and it’s easy to become exhausted enough to eat whatever is easy. However, easy foods aren’t usually healthy.

Losing weight as a busy mom of young kids is extremely difficult – but not impossible. It takes much more planning and thought, which isn’t easy when you eat, sleep, and breathe your kids.

It isn’t easy to lose weight with young kids because most of your energy goes into making sure they are fed and safe. Before you know it, you’re in the drive-thru lane at your favorite fast-food restaurant because you’re too tired to cook.

Many moms struggle to lose weight because of their busy lives. Convenience sometimes takes precedence over healthy choices, primarily because of time. But that’s not how it has to be.

Tips and tricks to lose weight with kids

You can lose weight while still being the mom of the year to your kids. Many lifestyle hacks and tips allow you to be there for your kids while looking out for your own health and well-being.

Young kids don’t have to keep you from achieving your health goals, especially when getting back your pre-pregnancy body. Dr. Toll offers the following hacks to lose weight with little kids:

Make a weekly menu

A weekly menu is excellent for avoiding empty calories and fast food dinners. Plan your family’s meals ahead of time to calculate your caloric intake while sticking to whole foods. You can even meal prep ahead of time for those busy days.

Stock your fridge with healthy foods

It’s easy to stock your fridge with sugary drinks and unhealthy foods to keep your kids happy, but make sure you have healthy foods for yourself. Stock your fridge with whole foods, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins for optimal weight loss.

Make time for family fun

Movement is a great way to burn calories, so make time each day to engage in physical activity with your little ones. Physical movement is essential for weight loss, whether that means an impromptu dance party or mommy and me yoga.

Try to stay consistent

You don’t have to be perfect to lose weight, but you do need consistency. Instead of focusing on trying to eat perfectly, shoot for consistency throughout the week. Aim to eat healthy most of the week, but leave a meal or two where you can cheat.

Plan your grocery list

A significant tip for weight loss, especially with kids, is to avoid going to the grocery store hungry and without a list. That only leads to a cart of sugary and processed foods that aren’t conducive to weight loss.

Plan your grocery list to include healthy foods for you and your family.

Make freezer meals

Nothing is more difficult than planning a meal after a busy day of running around with your kids. Making freezer meals ahead of time is a great option to stay healthy during a busy week without having to spend hours in the kitchen.

Avoid eating your kids’ leftovers

Kids can be finicky when eating their meals, but that doesn’t mean you must eat their leftovers. It’s sometimes tough to throw away a delicious plate of macaroni and cheese or dino nuggets, but eating them on top of your meal isn’t a great way to lose weight.

If all of these tips fail, Dr. Toll offers a weight loss program that fits your busy lifestyle and needs. He provides support and wellness coaching that allow you to achieve your goals, no matter how busy your life is.
